Ceilidh
is the Gaelic word for "Party" or "Gathering"
and Route 19 on the western side of Cape Breton Island is the
stage for a host of local musicians playing traditional music
all summer long. Along this particular stretch of the Island,
you will find more fiddlers, dancers, piano players and other
musicians per square miles than any other part of the island
(quite posibly the world). Home to Natalie MacMaster, Ashley
MacIsaac and the Rankin Family, this is where Celtic music flourishes
in community halls and local pubs in every village along the
way. Think... fiddling and step dancing...square dances....and
lobster suppers! Here too, artists and artisans are plentiful
- visit them in their studios and look for their work in the
Inverness County Centre for the Arts gallery and gift shop.
Lie on white sand beaches, swim in the pristine warm waters
of the Northumberland Strait and watch the sun set over the
sea. The Ceilidh Trail has it all - friendly people, beautiful
scenery, great music and spectacular sunsets!
The
Ceilidh Trail is included in our Cape Breton ASK GPS
Tour Guide.
